What do you want to fish?

The Pacific is much colder, more turbulent, and nutrient-rich, and supports large populations of open-water fishes like tuna, mackerel, jacks, and billfish. In contrast, the Caribbean is much more stable, shallow, and nutrient-poor, encouraging the growth of coral reefs, sea grasses, and mangroves. In the Caribbean you can find some of the best snook and tarpon in the world. Learn more about type of fishes...

After breakfast you will check out of your hotel and you will be met at the lobby by a private shuttle, which will transfer you to Guanacaste to Melia Conchal Hotel.

Meliá Playa Conchal is the largest and most opulent resort in the country, offering the highest levels of distinguished service. It is located in the northwest section of the country, bordering the Pacific Ocean.

The area is known for its spectacular beaches. Conchal is considered by many to be the most beautiful white-sand beach in Costa Rica. The resort resembles an elegant, modern village, with its villas, rooms and facilities focused upon an impressive free-form pool. The white-sands of Conchal are just steps from your door, as is championship golf.

The Robert Trent Jones II-designed Garra de Leon (Lion‘s Paw ) Golf Course serves as a magnificent centerpiece to the most luxurious resort in Central America. Jones fulfilled his goal of creating another masterpiece, one that blends harmoniously into the natural Costa Rica countryside.

The course can be challenging enough from the back tees (7,080 yards) to host a professional event, but one that the resort guests will enjoy from the other three or four sets of tees, ranging from 5,446 to 6,624 yards. With panoramic views of the Blue Pacific from many of the holes, the course meanders through rolling hills with sun-drenched fairways bordered by native forests--you might even see howler monkeys.

In addition, there are enough lakes and ravines to put a premium on accurate approach shots to large Bermuda greens manicured just like those at country clubs in the USA.

Full day fishing

Sixteen to twenty miles west of Marina Flamingo are two drop-offs where water depth increases from 360 to 2,000 feet and again from 2,000 feet to deeper. This provides a complete eco-system of sea-life. Predominant species include: sailfish; blue, black and striped marlin; dorado; yellowfin and tuna.

May through October is ideal for 80 to 130 pound Sailfish. Marlin fishing is typically good year round with the peak months being July through September and January, February. Weather wise, May is the very beginning of our rains, but very mild and typically on shore. The rains gradually increase and peak during the month of October, September and October. The intensity is usually linked to the number of hurricanes in the Atlantic. No winds but rain. By mid-November the rains have totally stopped until April-May. Temperature is typically in the mid to high 80's. A full day is best for a good off shore fishing trip.

Four miles from The Marina Flamingo are the Catalina and Brumel Islands and a series of rock outcroppings called the Sombreros. This area provides a year round abundance of: Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Wahoo, Sierra Mackerel, Almaco Jack, and Jack Cravelle. A variety of Snapper including Pacific Cubera or Dog Tooth, Rooster fish up to 75 pounds, Grouper, Black Tipped Sharks, and a variety of other reef and bottom dwellers live in this area.
