San José – Península de Osa - Arenal (8 days and 7 nights)

Arrival to San Jose. A representative of our company will meet you at the Juan Santamaria International Airport and will transfer you to Hotel Occidental La Condesa.

It is located in a high quality property surrounded by quaint little towns and villages.  With its 60 Standard rooms, 31 Junior Suites, 4 Executive rooms and 2 Presidential Suites, the hotel is the ideal place to enjoy nature and forget about daily routines.

The city of Heredia is located 10 minutes away from the hotel.

You will take a plane to Palmar Sur, the ground transportation to Sierpe and finally boat transportation to Aguila de Osa Hotel. You will have the opportunity to experience a tropical paradise in Peninsula de Osa.

The guestrooms feature hardwood floors, ceiling fans and private, tiled bathrooms. The cabins are situated on a bluff overlooking magnificent Drake Bay and the Pacific Coast.

You will walk into a world of immense bio-diversity right on your doorstep. Trails cross orchid draped streams and wind through virgin jungle, home to a vast array of exotic birds and mammals. Howler and White-faced monkeys bound through the canopy. The Scarlet Macaw, Toucan, and Tanager are just three examples of the 300 species of birds indigenous to the region.

Tour to Corcovado National Park. This Park is one of the most beautiful virgin primary forests in the world.  This protected area with more than 40,000 hectares is home of more than 400 species of birds and more than 100 species each of amphibians and mammals.

According to National Geographic Magazine, “This is the most biologically intense place in the earth”.

Tour to Caño Island Biological Reserve. This small protected island near Drake Bay is covered with thick vegetation and surrounded by clear waters that hold coral formations and abundant marine life. The island was important for ancient indigenous cultures, and many pre-Columbian artifacts have been discovered there. While the snorkeling is excellent just off the island’s main beach, certified divers usually head to the more distant dive spots of Bajo del Diablo and Paraiso, two submerged reefs that attract great schools of jacks and other fish, several species of sharks and manta rays.

Return to San Jose first to Sierpe in a 25 mile boat ride and then take the domestic flight form Palmar Sur airport to the capital city.

At arrival to San Jose, a private shuttle will be waiting you to drive to  Arenal Volcano. You will have lunch on the way before stopping at the thermal hot springs of the El Tabacon River, where you can take a dip in the warm waters heated from within the volcano. For over twenty-five years, seismologists from Smithsonian Institute and the National University of Costa Rica have been intensely monitoring Arenal from their research station at the Arenal Observatory Lodge, your home for the next two nights. The lodge is set high on a ridge facing the famous volcano and is surrounded by thousands of acres of incredible rainforest. If the skies are clear at night, you will have the opportunity to watch a magnificent display of fireworks as the bright red lava tumbles down the side of the volcano

Overnight at Tabacon Resort

 

At 7:15 you will be pick up to the Safari Adventure float tour. From La Fortuna you will take a twenty minute drive to the Peñas Blancas River to start the tour.  Here you will start the trip of approximately two hours in an inflatable raft (no motor) on the lower, slower moving section of the river. You will be able to hear the sounds of nature as our guide describes the flora and fauna of the region. During this time it is also possible to see howler monkeys, crocodiles, toucans, two species of sloths and different bird species. Once you complete this first part of the tour its time to visit the farm of Don Pedro where he and his family will be waiting for you

After the visit with Don Pedro you will journey into the farm’s Primary Tropical Rain Forest. There we will find trees over 100 years old and have the opportunity to see the “ Blue Jean Frog ”  (Dendrobates pumilio). Throughout this part of the tour your guide will explain the medicinal uses of many plants found in the rainforest. Finally, you will get back into the raft and float the remaining 40 minutes to Boca Arenal while you enjoy the scenery.      

Here the bus will pick you up and take you back to La Fortuna allowing you an opportunity to see the extensive agricultural system of San Carlos County. You will be back to the hotel at about 1:30pm.

 Around 3:00pm. you will enjoy a hiking tour to the Arenal volcano which is one of the most actives of the world. During this hike it is possible to see many plants, birds, and other animal species that call the rainforest home. You will get close enough so that you can enjoy the eruptions of the volcano, but always from a safe distance. After that, you will go to a viewpoint where you can watch the volcano while enjoying a drink. Later on you can relax on the hot springs of Tabacon Resort.

After breakfast a private shuttle of our company will transfer you to San Jose to Hotel Occidental Torremolinos. The hotel is 15 minutes from the airport and closed to the Museum of Costa Rican Art and La Sabana Park.

The afternoon is free to go shopping or just walk around downtown San Jose.

Overnight at Hotel Torremolinos.

A representative from our company will meet you at the lobby of your hotel to transfer you to the International airport to take your flight back home.
