Just getting to Marenco means the excitement
of flying by small plane, cruising by boat down a tropical lowland r iver,
and crossing the open ocean. Once there, you can hike in the forest, explore
deserted beaches, snorkel the rock and coral shores or go horseback riding.
Even deep sea diving can be arranged. There are also boat tours to nearby
CaŅo Island and Corcovado National Park, a rainforest reserve of global
significance and one which adjoins Marenco's own 500 hectare reserve.
Simple thatch roofed cabins sit in a small clearing by the rainforest
edge, atop a high promontory. Viewed from every balcony, Marenco's endless
sky and the Pacific Ocean spread out below in an ever-changing panorama
of light and motion. From these heights, ponderous Humpback Whales can
often be seen braking
the surface of the water in their season of migration. With quiet patience
your should see dozens of bird species, monkeys, sloths, coatimundis and
much more. Jaguars, pumas and other big cats live here, too, but are much
too secretive to reveal themselves to the casual observer.
